Sybel appears as a young woman with blonde hair tied back as if to appear short. She holds a baby cradled in her arms.

History/Relationships:

Sybel is the daughter of Galen and Averran. Her sister is Healda, the Battlemaiden. Sybel is Averran’s handmaiden and follows the tenets of her mother’s faith, interacting little with other deities and concentrating on aiding women seeking children.

Dogma:

Family is sacred; protect the sanctity of the home and its members above all. Show no mercy to those who suffer children within their homes. When two lovers enter into marriage, they form a sacred bond. Woe be to any who put tension upon it. Treat infidelity with quick intervention. Rape is the most grievous of sins; ensure a rapist can never harm another ever again.

Clergy and Temples:

Temples of Averran are never found separated from the worship of Galen , Sybel and Healda. In smaller areas, Lomar and Erden often are also worshipped in the same temple. That being said, temples to the LG pantheon are found in nearly all major cities and most cities larger than a hamlet. Outside their temples, Sybeline clerics are found ministering throughout the community to all women who are pregnant and helping deliver healthy children. Sybelines pray for spells in the morning and evening and with every meal spent with family. The traditional dress of clergy is simple, homespun cloth. Sybel does not have paladins; these holy warriors are the charge of her sister Healda.  All Sybelite clerics are female; male worshippers follow Galen or Healda. Acolytes of Sybel receive their calling as a vision from the goddess in their late teens or early twenties. A woman so called may refuse freely without repercussion.

The only traditional holy day within Sybel’s church is the spring equinox. This day is celebrated as life and fertility returns to all creation. Local celebrations are also called when a child is born or a couple conceives after hardship. These celebrations are filled with music, song, dance, and feasting.

Special Abilities:

Sybeline clergy gain no special abilities as they progress in levels.

Rituals:

Sybel makes several rituals available to those who please her. They are detailed below along with costs and other pre-requisites. Before any of these rituals will be performed, Unless otherwise specified, these powers are usable only by the recipient of the ritual.

The Fertile Womb – This ritual ensures the fertility of a woman wishing children. The recipient is blessed so as to be able to conceive at her next fertile period. This ritual requires the sacrifice of a virgin animal by a priestess of Sybel before conducting the ritual. This ritual is performed for those faithful who are having trouble conceiving their first child.

Deliverance – This ritual is placed on women in labor. It bestows a temporary +4 to Constitution and the use of the Endurance feat until after the child is born.

Sybel’s blessing -- This ritual places a blessing upon a woman who has conceived. It doubles the chances for a normal, healthy pregnancy and a child born free of defects. This ritual requires a donation of goods appropriate from the wealth and station of the woman seeking sybel’s blessing.
