Averran appears as a middle-aged woman with flowing blonde hair and deep blue eyes. Two young girls appear in front of her or in her arms. The image of an open door typically appears behind her, and a roof always appears over Averran’s head.

History/Relationships:

Averran is the wife of Galen, the God of Truth and Peace. Their daughters are Healda, The Battlemaiden and Sybel, The Midwife . Averran interacts little with other deities, leaving her husband to tend to such matters while she watches over mortal families. Averran opposes acts which harm families, especially children, acts of infidelity, and above all, rape. Stories are told to children of times where Averran has heard her name called out and visited quick death upon killers and rapists.

Dogma:

Family is sacred; protect the sanctity of the home and its members above all. Show no mercy to those who suffer children within their homes. When two lovers enter into marriage, they form a sacred bond. Woe be to any who put tension upon it. Treat infidelity with quick intervention. Rape is the most grievous of sins; ensure a rapist can never harm another ever again.

Clergy and Temples:

Temples of Averran are never found separated from the worship of Galen , Sybel and Healda. In smaller areas, Lomar and Erden often are also worshipped in the same temple. That being said, temples to the LG pantheon are found in nearly all major cities and most cities larger than a hamlet. Outside their temples, Averranite clerics are found in public places healing children and offering aid to families in distress. Averranites are often called to perform wedding ceremonies regardless of any other deity worshipped; this blessing is considered a good omen for a marriage. Couples may be wed in the temple or anywhere they ask for the blessing of union. Clerics of Averran pray for spells in the morning and evening and with every meal spent with family. All clergy of Averran must be wed and are often wed to clergy of Galen. The traditional dress of clergy is simple, homespun cloth. Averran does not have paladins; these holy warriors are the charge of her daughter, Healda. Averranite clerics are female; male worshippers follow galen or Healda. Acolytes to Averran receive their calling as a vision from the goddess in her honeymoon bed. A woman so called may refuse freely without repercussion or may delay her answer until after her first child. There are no traditional holy days within Averran’s church. Local celebrations are called when a marriage is performed or a child is born. These celebrations are composed of music, song, dance, and feasting.

Special Abilities:

Averranite clergy gain special abilities as they progress in their dedication to the Firstmother. Unless otherwise specified, these powers are supernatural abilities usable at will by the caster only.

3rd level –  the cleric gains use of a magic circle vs. evil (1/day).

7th level –  the cleric gains the ability to project a lesser ward (1/day). This ability lasts as long as the cleric concentrates and fills

a 10’ r area with a holy glow that prevents any within from being harmed by magic or physical strikes doing less than

20 points of damage in a single blow. Any single Attack doing more than 20 points breaks the ward, but the ward

lessens that attack by 20 points.

12th level – the cleric gains the ability to project a greater ward (1/day). The conditions are the same as lesser ward except a

blow of greater than 30 points of damage is required to break it.

Rituals:

Averran makes several rituals available to those who please her. They are detailed below along with costs and other pre-requisites. Before any of these rituals will be performed, Unless otherwise specified, these powers are usable only by the recipient of the ritual.

The Divine Spark of Wisdom -- This ritual draws the divine blessing of Averran into a worthy recipient, granting him/her a permanent increase of +1 to wisdom as a divine bonus. This bonus cannot be dispelled or magically removed except as punishment by Averran. The ritual costs the individual 4,000XP and requires the participation of at least three priests of 9th level or higher.

Sanctity of the Home -- This ritual places a blessing upon a home, so that any unwelcome intruders suffer a -1 on all attacks, damage, and skill rolls.  Vampires are unable to enter a home warded by this ritual unless they are invited in by one with the auhority to do so.  The blessing is centered on the hearth as a glowing rune; if this is defaced, the protection ends. Otherwise, the duration is permanent.  A priestess of 9th level or higher is required to enact this ritual at a cost of a donation to the temple of at least 200gp.

Two Become One – This ritual joins a willing man and woman in the bonds of marriage. For the next seven days, both individuals gain a +1 luck bonus on all rolls. A priestess of any level can perform this ritual.
