Description:

Lomar appears as a middle-aged man unclad, except for chains, and bearing evidence of heavy labor, scars, and healing wounds. Lomar is depicted as bald and with deep blue eyes which are filled with tears.

History/Relationships:

Lomar is deeply respected by the other lightbearers, especially Galen, for the burdens he willingly bears in the name of others. Lomar and Gylwyn bear a special fellowship stemming from their protection of travelers; Lomar’s disinterest in usurping this portfolio has won him the complete trust of Gylwyn. He is mocked by the selfish and evil for the weakness of his beliefs in furthering his own. Despite this, Lomar begrudges no deity and will freely aid all who ask. As a result, the chosen of Lomar are welcome almost universally by  residents of all populated areas.

Dogma:

Help all who hurt, regardless of their beliefs. The care of a stranger can turn the hardest heart. Take on the suffering of all who ask or those who cannot continue. Follow your cause, regardless of peril; a martyr’s death is meaningful and free of shame. Perfect your body that you may bear greater burdens in the name of others and better resist pain. Oppose those who inflict pain willingly; to them, return what they offer so freely.

Clergy and Temples:

There are few temples of Lomar that exist independently of the Palandine. Those that do are mostly monestaries of monks and clerics in Lomar’s service that were founded in areas of great need; of course, that need may have past, and the faithful have found other causes to undertake. Lomar’s clergy is most often found in the field, aiding those in need by shouldering physical burden, healing the sick, and inhabiting places where travelers may require aid. Clerics of Lomar pray for spells at dawn, offering their blood and tears sacrificially into a bowl of water which is poured into the ground. As with the other Palandine, Lomar does not support paladins; he does, however, support monks into his service. These and his clerics will sometimes go on to become divine champions or divine seekers,Lomar allows both men and women into his service. Clerics of Lomar prefer simple dress and eschew armor of any kind. In honor of their god, all shave their heads and wear ribbons or cord wrapped around their wrists as symbols of the chains of their god. Some devotees also have chains tattooed on their wrists and bodies and/or tears upon their faces. Signs of a grueling life and upbringing are seem as marks of Lomar’s calling into his clergy. Unlike many other deities, Lomar welcomes those of any age as initiated to his fold. Those who feel called are subjected to a ritual called The Trail of Tears where the initiate is given a heavy load to bear over some distance of physical obstacles including such things as icy water, burning coals, or jagged rocks and glass. Those who complete the task are welcomed into the fold. The church of Lomar holds local holidays in remembrance of the faithful who have fallen. Universally, the church celebrates Pyros 19 as the Requiem of Talbott. Church legend depicts Talbott as one of the first priests of Lomar who was executed jointly by the worshippers of Crylla and Myk to test the limit of Talbott’s faith. This holiday is celebrated by a passion play of the capture and torture of Talbott where after the first priest is led through the streets in chains. Following the play, the temple area is hung in black cloth, and the requiem sang, the conclusion of which is Talbott rising from his suffering and ascending.
