Description:

Amairgen is depicted as a wizened, old woman bent over a scrivener’s desk perusing a large tome. Her long white hair is braided down her back. Some depictions place her in a mandala which is half-white and half-black.

History/Relationships:

Amairgen is the sage of the gods as well as one triune part of the Triad. Though Gavriel and Metran each hold power of Aldernon’s magic, it is Amairgen who holds the most, for most magic does not draw on good or evil for its power. Her larger interest in the recording of knowledge makes her more of a matron overseeing two children as different as day and night. To Amairgen, the destruction of any knowledge is the most heinous of acts. As a result, she finds Rakoth an abomination.

Dogma:

Knowledge is power. Collect the wisdom of the lands and its magic. Make it available for your brothers and sisters to study. Magic is both an art and a craft. Aid those who practice it but chastise those who abuse it.  Let knowledge be neither destroyed nor lost. Those despoilers who wipe the unrecorded away are the most grievous of sinners. Teach all who ask to read that they may pursue knowledge on their own.

Clergy and Temples:

The clergy of Amairgen care for little else than books and learning. The temples of the great librarian are more quiet places of study and learning than worship. One of the tenets of Amairgen’s worship is to teach any who ask to read. As a result, classrooms are part of every temple.  It is the ongoing practice of Amairgen’s faith to acquire a copy of every spell and magic item ever created. This practice sometimes puts her faithful at odds with spellcrafters who do not wish their work to be public knowledge or the owners of unique items who do not wish to give their magics to the temple for study and cataloging. The clergy of Amairgen eschew the usage of all armor and shield, depending on magic to protect them when they leave their temples. They pray for spells at the beginning of each day, preferring to read the canons in contemplation rather than pray directly for them. Clergy often multiclass as wizards, sorcerers or bards to gain a working use of the magic the goddess watches over. Amairgen maintains a small number of paladins known as Spellbreakers. These men and women enforce the dictates of the goddess against the most serious abusers of magic; they also quest to recover lost spells and items for their temples.

Special Abilities:

Amairgen’s priests gain additional special abilities as they progress in their dedication. Unless otherwise specified, these powers are supernatural abilities usable at will by the caster only.  All clerics of Amairgen gain the ability to read magic at will.  All clerics of Amairgen may learn one mage spell as a divine spell of the same level for every 5 levels they attain.

3rd level – the cleric gains a +2 divine bonus on Spellcraft checks

5th level – the cleric gains the ability of identify (1/day)

7th level – the cleric gains the ability of dispel magic (1/day)

9th level – the cleric gains the ability to use arcane scrolls

Rituals:

Amairgen offers no rituals to her worshippers. The pursuit of knowledge is an individual quest.
