Metran is depicted as a black-robed man in his 30’s, thin and pale, with black hair and eyes. He is usually depicted with a goatee and bearing a staff topped with a demonic skull.

History/Relationships:

Metran is the evil part of the Triad ruling over magic in Aldernon. While Amairgen is considered the Mother of All Magic and the Sage of the Gods, Metran and Gavriel are considered her twin offspring, one devoted to the white arts and one devoted to the black arts. Metran is on good terms with his mother; he opposes his sister Gavriel on principle, but their opposition is more of a rivalry than a hatred. Metran has neither allies nor enemies among the gods.

Dogma:

Magic is the means to an end: POWER. Seize power with magic whenever possible; use it to control lesser beings and bend them to your will. Use magic to cow and impress all chattel who do not use magic. Use magic whenever possible. Do not dirty your hands with any task accomplishable by magic or through a servant.

Clergy and Temples:

Temples to Metran are never seen in public, except in Thryn; regardless, all are found underground. Any established Metranic temple collects works of dark magic and truenames. Clergy dole out this dark knowledge to petitioners they deem worthy. Undead mages such as vampires and liches are openly welcomed into such places as well as outsiders seeking to learn black magics. Worship ceremonies are solemn events conducted at midnight and within the darkness of the new moon. Such involve ritual casting of spells using energies released from blood sacrifices and the summoning of outsiders. Metranics eschew the use of all armor and shield, counting on their dark spells and reputations to protect them from any foe. When traveling, they will endenture outsiders to protect them and make use of charmed and dominated bodyguards.

Special Abilities:

Metran’s priests gain additional special abilities as they progress in their dedication. Unless otherwise specified, these powers are supernatural abilities usable at will by the caster only. All clerics of Metran may learn one mage spell as a divine spell of the same level for every 6 levels they attain and may freely learn any black magic spell.

3rd level – the cleric gains read magic as a bonus spell
